Welcome to Civil Engineering Department

The Department of Civil Engineering was started in the year of 1986-87. It has been started with an objective to impart high quality education. It offers UG Degree in Civil Engineering with an intake of 120 students and PG in Structural Engineering and Infrastructural Engineering and Management and R&D center. The department has well qualified faculty members and excellent Laboratory facilities. Since the inception, the department is running with the vision to produce the most competent Civil Engineers and Researchers through Quality Education. The Department has good infrastructure facilities required for imparting high quality education, research oriented consultancy work and is structured to meet the present day needs of the society.

Short term Goals

To upgrade and strengthen all the laboratories so as to promote research and development activities in the field of Civil Engineering which will also motivate the faculty and others to take up doctoral studies.

To take-up design projects in collaboration with professional organizations like., Public Works departments and construction firms etc.,

To involve the students in project designs which are live and are need based

MOU’s with leading industries and foreign universities

Long term Goals

To make efforts in upgrading the department to be one of the top most in the field of civil engineering.

To involve the department in the policy making process in governmental and professional bodies like, Institution of Engineers, Indian road congress etc.

To aim at making the department autonomous by improving the standards both academic and otherwise.

To Take part in the nation building by involving our personnel in planning and design of Infrastructural Improvements

Program Educational Objectives (PEOs)

Graduates will have successful career in civil engineering industries, public sector or as Entrepreneurs.

Graduates will pursue higher education in leading institutes/engage in continuing education to be competitive in the organization.

3. Graduates will design cost effective and sustainable civil engineering structures conforming to standards.

Program Specific Outcomes (PSOs)

1. Demonstrate sound knowledge in analysis, design, laboratory investigations and construction aspects of civil engineering structures, along with good foundation in mathematics, basic sciences and technical aspects.

2. Inculcating communicational skills and leadership attributes towards the team work. Developing critical thinking abilities with competence in modern tool usage.

Program Outcomes(POs)

Engineering knowledge: Apply the knowledge of mathematics, science, engineering fundamentals, and an engineering specialization to the solution of complex engineering problems.

Problem analysis: Identify, formulate, research literature, and analyze complex engineering problems reaching substantiated conclusions using first principles of mathematics, natural sciences, and engineering sciences.

Design/development of solutions: Design solutions for complex engineering problems and design system components or processes that meet the specified needs with appropriate consideration for the public health and safety, and the cultural, societal, and environmental considerations.

Conduct investigations of complex problems: Use research-based knowledge and research methods including design of experiments, analysis and interpretation of data, and synthesis of the information to provide valid conclusions

Modern tool usage: Create, select, and apply appropriate techniques, resources, and modern engineering and IT tools including prediction and modeling to complex engineering activities with an understanding of the limitations.

The engineer and society: Apply reasoning informed by the contextual knowledge to assess societal, health, safety, legal and cultural issues and the consequent responsibilities relevant to the professional engineering practice.

Environment and sustainability: Understand the impact of the professional engineering solutions in societal and environmental contexts, and demonstrate the knowledge of, and need for sustainable development.

Ethics: Apply ethical principles and commit to professional ethics and responsibilities and norms of the engineering practice.

Individual and team work: Function effectively as an individual, and as a member or leader in diverse teams, and in multidisciplinary settings.

Communication: Communicate effectively on complex engineering activities with the engineering community and with society at large, such as, being able to comprehend and write effective reports and design documentation, make effective presentations, and give and receive clear instructions.

Project management and finance: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the engineering and management principles and apply these to one’s own work, as a member and leader in a team, to manage projects and in multidisciplinary environments.

Life-long learning: Recognize the need for, and have the preparation and ability to engage in independent and life-long learning in the broadest context of technological change.
