NATIONAL SERVICE SCHEME

The National Service Scheme (NSS) is a government sponsored public service program in India that involves students in community service. The program’s goals include:

  1. Developing Students: The NSS aims to develop students’ personalities and character through community service.
  2. Improving Quality: The NSS aims to improve the quality of educated manpower.
  3. Building Connections: The NSS aims to develop healthy connections between students and teachers and to establish a constructive link between the campus and the community.

The NSS was launched in 1969, the centenary year of “Mahatma Gandhi”. The NSS is a central sector scheme of the ministry of youth affairs and sports of the government of India.

The NSS unit of SJCIT was started in the year 2002 with the blessings of his Divine Soul Padmabhushana Sri Sri Sri Dr. Balagangadharanatha Maha Swamiji, the Founder President of Sri Adichunchanagiri Mutt.

Under the blessings of Param Pujya Jagadguru Sri Sri Sri Dr. Nirmalanandanatha Maha Swamiji, President of Sri Adichunchanagiri Shikshana Trust (R), the Trust has taken up a special responsibility in providing education comprising three components – Intellectual, Spiritual & Physical needs of students. Pujya Sri Sri Mangalanatha Swamiji is the secretary of Sri Mutt Chickballapur.

The NSS program is currently running in SJCIT with the guidance of our beloved Principal, Dr. G T Raju and NSS Programme Officer Dr. Ravikumar T R Associate Professor Department of Mechanical Engineering and Conveyer Dr. Veena S, Associate Professor Department of Electronics and Communication Engineering SJCIT.

Motto of the National Service Scheme

The motto of the National Service Scheme is ‘NOT ME BUT YOU’.  This express the essence of democratic living and upholds the need for selfless service and appreciation of the other person’s point of view first and to show consideration for fellow human beings. It also the welfare of the individual is ultimately dependent on the welfare of society as a whole.    

NSS badge

The NSS badge contains the Konark Wheel having 8 bars signifies the 24 hours of the day, reminding the wearer to be ready for the service of the nation round the clock i.e. for 24 hours. The Red color in the badge signifies energy and spirit displayed by the NSS volunteers. The blue color signifies the cosmos of which the NSS is a tiny part, ready to contribute its share for the welfare of the mankind.

Objectives of the National Service Scheme

The Main Objectives of the National Service Scheme are to establish meaningful linkages between

  1. Campus and community
  2. College and Village
  3. Knowledge and Action
  • Understand themselves in relation to their community.
  • Understand the community in which they work.
  • Identify the needs and problems of the community and involve them in problem-solving activities.
  • Develop among them a sense of social and civic responsibility.
  • Utilize their knowledge in finding practical solutions to individual and community problems.
  • Develop competence required for group-living and sharing of responsibilities.
  • Gain skills in mobilizing community participation.
  • Acquire leadership qualities and democratic attitudes.
  • Develop capacity to meet emergencies and natural disasters and practice national integration and social harmony.

Principle of the National Service Scheme

The cardinal principle of the NSS Unit of SJC Institute of Technology is to get a sense of involvement in the task of Nation building through conducting varies activities like:

  • Blood Donation Camps
  • Organic Farming
  • Heritage Walk
  • Awareness About conservation of water
  • Swachata Ki Bagidhari
  • Plantation of trees, their preservation and upkeep.
  • Importance of Higher education conducted for Government School Student.
  • Visited Old-age homes.
  • Construction & maintenance of village streets, drains, etc. to keep the environment clean.
  • Cleaning of village ponds and wells.
  • Environmental sanitation and disposal of garbage & composting.
  • Free Health Checkup Camps.
  • Debate, Essay Writing, Pick and Speech and Cross Word Competitions conducted on occasions of State and National importance.
  • Also celebrating various auspicious days of international importance.
