Library rules and services

Our Services

  • Circulation of Books: Books available in the stack area will be issued to users for borrowing for a period of 14 days (fortnight).
  • Classification of Books: Books in the library are arranged according to their call number and subject classification. The subject name and class number are indicated on the side of each rack. Users can locate books in the racks course-wise through the call number.
  • Recall of Books: Books may be recalled by the library during stock verification or at the end of every semester. Members must return the recalled books immediately.
  • Reference Services: Reference books are meant for in-library reference only. However, faculty members may borrow reference books for overnight use.
  • Book Bank Facility: The Book Bank facility is available for SC/ST category students. Under this scheme, students can borrow four additional books every semester apart from the books available in the general stack area.
  • User Awareness Program: The library conducts a Library Orientation / User Awareness Programme every year to introduce library facilities, resources, and services to newly admitted students.
  • Care of Library Books: Books are issued to students for 14 days only. A due date slip is pasted on the last page of each book. If the book is returned after the due date, a fine will be charged per day per book until the book is returned.
  • Care of Library Borrower Cards:
    • Students must take special care of their borrower cards.
    • Do not fold or damage the cards.
    • Do not alter any entries made on the cards.
    • Members are responsible for all borrower cards issued to them.
  • Loss of Books: If a book is lost, the borrower must pay double the cost of the book after obtaining permission from the Librarian.
  • Loss of Borrower Card: Loss of a borrower card should be reported in writing to the Librarian. After verification, a duplicate card will be issued on payment of ₹25 per card.

Library Rules and Regulations

  • Silence must be strictly maintained inside the library.
  • Discussions are not permitted inside the library.
  • Library membership registration is mandatory before using library resources.
  • Personal belongings are not allowed inside the library.
  • Textbooks, printed materials, and already issued books should not be brought inside the library.
  • Use of cellular phones, audio devices, speakers, or headphones is strictly prohibited within the library premises.
  • All users must enter their name and sign in the register kept at the entrance counter before entering the library.
  • Books or any materials taken out of the library must be shown to the staff at the entrance counter.
  • The Librarian has the authority to recall any book from a member at any time, and the member must return it immediately.
  • Library borrower cards are non-transferable. The cardholder is responsible for all books issued on their card.
  • Eating or drinking is strictly prohibited inside the library premises (including chocolates, juice, etc.).

LIBRARY AUTOMATION:

The library is automated using Library Management Software – LIBSUITE Educational, which helps manage all library housekeeping operations such as book issue, return, cataloguing, and user records.

BAR-CODING:

The library stack is barcoded. Barcoding technology helps in efficient circulation of books (issue and return process) and quick identification of library materials.

REFERENCE SECTION:

The reference section includes:
• Previous Question Papers
• Encyclopaedias
• Dictionaries
• Reference Textbooks
• Competitive Exam Books (IAS, KAS, PGCET, GATE, etc.)
These resources are meant for reference within the library only.

MAGAZINE SECTION:

The magazine section includes journals, general magazines, and newsletters.
• They are arranged department-wise.
• Latest issues are displayed on the display rack.
• Previous issues are arranged in drawers.
• Bound volumes of periodicals are arranged alphabetically on racks and are meant for reference only within the library.
• Students and staff may photocopy required materials if needed.
